1-03-2008 - Overnight Parking - New rules - Please Read!!!!

Over the past few years we have had a sharp increase in the number of people who go against our rule of parking cars on the grass overnight. This has been a growing problem as each year more and more people are leaving their cars on the grounds for the weekend. This past year it came to a head because so many non-Fort William Henry (FWH) guests decided to leave their cars overnight that many of the actual FWH guests had no place to park their show vehicles other than the grass. The reason we do not allow anyone to stay parked on the grass is because it becomes a challenge to park around those cars on Friday or Saturday morning and we end up losing spaces because a few cars are out of sync with the parking system. The only other way around this problem is to cut back on the number of registered cars and nobody wants that. We try to allow as many people in the show as possible.

After dealing with many upset FWH guests, we decided to make a NEW rule in relation to parking on the property. Effective this year, the only vehicles allowed to remain on the FWH grounds overnight will be those of guests checked in and staying at the FWH resort. We will be identifying these vehicles as they check in. Eligible vehicles allowed to park on the FWH property must display a special hang tag from the rear-view mirror. After the show ends for the night, we will not allow anyone who isn't a FWH guest to come back on the grounds until the show starts up again at 7am the next morning. Anyone who is not a guest of the FWH is asked to remove their vehicle by 10PM each evening which is when the cruise ends. Those who do not comply will have their registrations pulled, not be eligible for any awards, may be banned from future shows and even worse, could get towed. We hate to be so strict, but the club had a hard time with a few persons trying to park against our “No Parking on grass” rule this past year.

Show vehicles belonging to FWH Guests must be parked in actual parking space somewhere on the pavement. The only exception to this is FWH guests on the lake side of the old hotel who are allowed to park against their rooms and also handicapped participants parked in the designated Handicap Parking area who have permission from the club. Any car found parked on the grass will no longer be eligible for any awards that year and will be not be allowed back the following year. If the owner refuses to move the car it will be towed.

We know that this causes a problem for some of you who always parked on FWH property, but we hope you understand why we had to take this action. Thank you for your continued support.

6-10-2007 - We have suffered a great loss.

I am deeply saddened to report that on Sunday morning, June 10th, 2007, our dear friend and Club President Joyce Rochester passed away. Joyce had been diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoma late last fall and had been undergoing treatment for many months. Due in part to her weakened immune system she contracted pneumonia which lead to Congestive Heart Failure.

Although you may not know her by name, if you have participated in our show, you have dealt with Joyce. She has been in charge of car show registration for as long as we can remember. Joyce became a member of Albany Rods and Kustoms on 4/1/1991 and has been an integral part of both our Car Club and the Adirondack Nationals ever since. Over the years she has worn many different hats, but her most recent role was as our Club President for the past four years.

Albany Rods & Kustoms will go on with the show as usual, but will do so with a very heavy heart. Joyce's absence will change the feel of the event for all who knew and worked with her. We are planning some dedications to her during the show and will post information about these as details are finalized.
We are also going to put a memorial up on this site with pictures of Joyce. If you have a photo of her you wish to have included, please email me at webmaster@albanyrodsandkustoms.com

Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening (6/14) @ 7:00pm at Wenk Funeral Home in Chatham, NY. It is located at 21 Payn road. Their phone is 392-2909. Anyone who knew or dealt with Joyce is welcome to attend. Please drive your Hot Rods if at all possible.

If you wish to send flowers and are not sure of a florist, many of our members are using N. Scali Florist. Their phone number is (518) 828-4910

Memorial Contributions can be made in Joyce's Name to the Columbia Green Humane Society. Here is a link to their website - www.cghs.com
and here is a link to their donation form -

5-8-2007 - Redesigned website makes it's debut

Our newly redesigned website has finally become a reality. I have been planning this new site for quite some time. It solves many of the issues we were having with the old format and also allows us to put more information here. Among the many new pages are the one you are currently reading, FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions), History, Highlights, and the new Visitor Info section. Some of these are still works in progress but they should be completed very soon. If, while browsing, you have any problems with the site, please email me using the Website Manager link located in the Contact Us section in the lower left corner of this page.

4-25-2007 - 2003 Senior Winner David Annacone passed away

David Annacone, Sr. passed away on April 25, 2007 after a long and valiant fight with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma.  He was born in Peekskill , New York on December 17, 1939.  Dave's love of cars was ignited at the age of twelve, when he befriended a local expert mechanic and learned everything he could from him.  Dave learned to do body work through various jobs.  His greatest passion and hobby were cars, and his talents ranged from restoring classic cars to building hot rods.  Dave's 1932 Auburn won 21 Best In Show trophies, and his Masi-Rod was a 2003 Adirondack Nationals Senior Winner and also winner of the President's Award.  He always said, “If I had to do it for a living, it wouldn't be fun anymore.”  A local church was for sale, and Dave said that he wished he could buy it and turn it into a hot rod body shop.  He said he would call it, “Hot Rods from Heaven.”  Somehow, his family and friends believe that he is still working on that plan.
